Let me help you overcome your dental fears.
Let me show you below how I help hundreds of patients overcome their dental anxiety.
Dental Phobia Certified Dentist
This certificate shows I am a dental healthcare professional who understands the challenges faced by patients living with dental phobia.
From seeing and treating many anxiety and fearful patients, I have used techniques and treatments that make worried patients feel at ease and comfortable.
Common reasons for dental fear include:
Needle phobia
Sounds of the drill
Fear of unknown
Invasion of personal space
Previous bad experience
Fear of pain
Smells of dental surgery
Fear of choking
Having a strong gagg reflex
Painless Treatment
I use pain free treatment techniques which allow your to feel comfortable and relaxed throughout your treatment. I use a topical cream to numb the gum. Our anaesthetic methods ensure you feel minimal to no discomfort and our strong anaesthetic ensure deep levels of numbness to last throughout your treatment to prevent any pain being felt.
I Will LISTEN.
I will ensure I listen to your worries and concerns and cater for your needs. Everyone has their OWN reason for being nervous. Whether that be a fear from childhood, or due to a past bad experience I will ensure that by listening to your individual story I can help make sure you do not ever undergo a bad experience with dental treatment.
CALMING Environment.
Our dental suite offers a tranquil and relaxing environment free from unwanted noisy sounds. We have calming, relaxing music playing and a TV on the ceiling to allow you to distract yourself by watching your favourite film or series. If you wish, you can listen to your own choice of music and sing along. My aim is to make the experience as enjoyable for you as possible.
I Provide Dental Sedation
Dental sedation is given for nervous patients to make you more relaxed, it is not a general anaesthetic but it puts you at ease, you feel sleepy and it relaxed your worried emotions. Often patient do not recall having treatment completed as the medication has an amnesic affect. Sedation works on patient with strong gagg reflex, heightened phobia of mouth injections or drilling sounds.
You Have CONTROL.
A lack of control and fear of the unknown is another common reason for fearing the dentist. I will ensure you have total control when seeing me. On your visit you can pause for a break at anytime, we will establish a safe word or action ( like raising your hand) for you to stop any assessment of treatment making sure you feel in control.
We Go At Your PACE.
A fear of the unknown is a large factor for dental anxiety. I adopt a Show-Tell-Do technique with any new treatments that you may have. This means I will first show and explain the treatment and why you may need this, I will then discuss what the treatment involves and can show you videos or picture of the treatment. Once you are happy and you understand what is going to happen, only then we start the treatment.
Dental Sedation FAQ
Dental sedation is given to nervous or phobic patients so treatment can be completed whilst you are relaxed.
The types of dental sedation :
Inhalation sedation ( happy gas/ happy air sedation)
Intravenous sedation ( given through a cannula in the arm or hand)
How does it work?
Dental sedation works by relaxing the areas in your brain that release stress signals and anxiety. By turning these signal down or off you are more relaxed and can cope much better with the treatment.
Inhalation vs Intravenous sedation
Inhalation sedation is given through a nose piece which stays on your nose throughout treatment. Oxygen and Nitrous oxide ( which are safe gases present in the air we normally breathe) are given throughout your treatment to make you relaxed. These are odour free safe gases and are delivered at a low pressure. The nose piece is made from a soft rubberised material and fits snugly onto your nose, these are available in different scented flavours.
Intravenous sedation is given through a vein in your arm or hand. The plastic cannula is painlessly inserted before beginning any dental treatment, this allows a faster route for the medication to begin working. Sedation relaxation effects can be felt within 1-2 minutes and often patient begin to fall into a sleep.
Will I feel or hear anything?
With both forms of sedation, you are still conscious and can respond to verbal commands, but are less aware. Local anaesthetic is still given to stop any pain, pressure feelings are normal but will not hurt. As you are not completely unconscious, this means it is safer and faster recovery than a general anaesthetic.
